The orb in this first picture appears to be 3-dimensional: notice the slight refraction displacement of the stair step, the boy's jacket and ear where they apparently pass behind the orb and the light is bent going through the foreground object causing a slight magnification and offset. There is a slight possibility that the orb is a humidity cluster, which only appears due to flash on the camera. (This requires a humid climate: was this picture taken in a humid area, such as Kentucky or Tennessee, or near a swampy area?)
I believe a flash was used as there are no strong shadows in the picture and the porch support pillar is clearly visible behind the steps, which could not occur without directional light or a camera flash being used. Do you know if this was taken with a digital camera? It appears to have a semi-finite focus with a depth of several feet. The Boy is only slightly clearer than the cat, and objects within approximately 3 feet (using the steps he is sitting on as a gauge of distance with an average estimated step depth of 11-12in.). This would indicate either use of a digital camera or a 35mm with auto focus. Manual focus would tend to have a shallower field of depth, and the more distant objects do not appear equally fuzzy, but show gradation of resolution, (the trees behind the porch are much less clear than the people and objects on the porch, indicating that this focus setting was NOT 'infinite'). The concentric ring patterns in the object are inconclusive as they are what would be expected when a humidity (swamp gas) effect is placed in front of a flash, the rings being reflected confirmation for the three dimensional aspect of the object.
CONSLUSION: There is something between the camera
and the Boy in the photo. It is most likely 3-dimentional and translucent
in nature. The regular pattern occurring on the object indicates a natural
origin. While I believe this may be something more, without further investigation
and questioning, I must state that the picture is inconclusive towards the
paranormal at this time.
RECOMENDATION: Inquire into the history of the
photographer, the type of camera, the time of day and weather, the location,
and any pertinent history of the location or individuals.
INTUITIVE RESPONSE: There is nothing evil or
malicious in the photo. The object impresses me as being barely there, just
passing through and non-sentient.
In the picture below, the photographer has either moved closer or changed
the camera focus slightly. The most notable singularity in the photo is the
cat's eyes. These however, appear to be a simple case of retinal reflection
of the camera flash. The orb is no longer present. In the lower right hand
corner of the picture there is an anomalous effect, which is apparently behind
the boy, somewhere between the steps of the porch and the support post at
the far side of the porch. Notice it occurs as a very slight color change/opacity
effect with a discernable curved edge at the top. This refraction/reflection
effect can be produced if light passes through any type of glass or Plexiglas/plastic
material. The effect appears strongest at the upper edge, weakening as it
moves downward. While it is possible this could be a humidity/fog effect,
one would expect a less severe demarcation point, however, if the ambient
conditions are favorable, this could be an example of mist being lit by the
flash and the upper edge being the point at which the flash is abruptly cut
off by the porch edge, producing a distinct edge of shadow.
There is an apparent anomaly just behind and to the right
of the Boy on the stair back. On first glance this has definite form and can
be easily discerned as a portrait like bust in the form of a woman. However,
this also appears partially occluded by the Boy in the previous picture, and
may be a natural illusion.
CONCLUSION: There is no conclusive evidence of
paranormal activity in this photograph. A slight case exists for the shadowing
effect under the porch, but requires extensive research to confirm and to
duplicate the effect without the presence of factors of glass/plastic objects
and/or high humidity.
RECOMMENDATION: Inquire as to length of time
and repositioning of photographer between the two pictures. Inquire as to
whether or not glass or plastic sheeting may have been stored under the porch.
Inquire into local conditions at the time of the photo.
INTUITIVE RESPONSE: Neat effect on the cat! Cute
kid!
