The American Association of Paranormal Investigators was founded by Stephen Weidner, Denver Colorado, in August of 2002. The premise of AAPI was to develop a more scientific and organized method of collecting, analyzing and presenting data from locations. The implementation of guidelines and protection of clients became one of the first ‘rules’ of investigating. Once evidence is collected in the field and is to be analyzed in a controlled lab, recreated if possible, documented under scientifically controlled procedures, recorded and findings represented to the general public. Advanced research is a core prior to investigations to look for ways to ‘enhance’ paranormal activity times crucial to data collecting. With these ‘rules’ in motion AAPI was founded. Trade name and 501c3 status was established and investigations started.
AAPI has had as many as 150 members and as little as 3. With the growing ‘interest’ in paranormal research AAPI filtered serious members willing to volunteer time and energy to understand, analyze and present, to the general public, our findings of activity out of the norm. AAPI believes in ‘playing friendly’ with others. We also invite others to accompany us on outings and investigations. We also pride ourselves on helping clients in other states find groups in their areas to address paranormal issues when travel is not an option for us.
AAPI is asked occasionally to assist in research for movies about the paranormal, assist in TV shows to look for the paranormal edge as well as research for authors when writing books about haunted locations in the area. It is not unusual for audiences to hear a member of AAPI on local, national or international radio programs interviewed on various paranormal subjects as well as analyzing data for national TV shows for evidence revue. AAPI has also been published in local metaphysical magazines with articles written on Ghost Hunting 101 series as well as the importance of using mediums as tools in the field of investigating. We have also been invited to give lectures at regional paranormal groups; our lectures deal with education, procedure and evidence studies.
From the beginning AAPI implemented the use of variable speed analysis on EVP’s as well as created the process of polarizing/depolarizing photographs for analysis. We have researched reverse speech as well as EMF manipulation via Tesla coils and many other experiments. AAPI dedicated computers to help analyze the amazing data from SETI for over 5 years and has received awards for accomplishing over 1000 units of data.
We are always willing to help students writing articles about the paranormal. Our communications include letters, and emails from elementary through college level students asking questions ranging from “How do you hunt ghosts?” to “What is ESP?” We also invite local students to come along on investigations and outings to further understand the process. We have assigned select members to handle emails and phone calls due to the volume we receive monthly, and to assign their replies to the most qualified group members.
There is a constant change in the paranormal field of investigating. We used to use equipment designed for other uses to gather material. We now have dedicated scientists building specific tools for data collecting in the field. It has also come to the attention that other fields of paranormal investigating have become more prominent. The field of Ufology and Cryptozoology have immerged and AAPI has gone along on the ride. We have also engaged the use of priests from various religions to help with cleansings and demonic activity.
